Looking for the best ways to make a small closet work? Here are some storage solutions for small bedrooms and closets and closet wallpaper.
I always knew I would find another place to use the wallpaper that we had leftover from our coastal powder room makeover.
What I didn’t know is that when Lifewit reached out to me and asked me to do a sponsored Pin on my Pinterest boards and sent me these clothing storage bag organizers, that it would snowball into a total small closet overhaul for Eve.
Honestly?
I am so grateful that Lifewit sent these oversized clothing storage bags to get organized.
Because?
Somehow…
Someway…
Something happened when I wasn’t looking.
The beautiful coastal bedroom makeover that I gave to Eve last year for her birthday?
This coastal bedroom had started to keep a dirty little secret.
A secret in the shape of a serious closet crisis.
Are you ready to see what this small closet confusion looked like before we gave it a makeover?
Remember friends…this is a no judgement zone. 🙂
Heck, this isn’t even my closet!
But still, I can’t help but feel badly for this next level closet chaos.
Prepare yourself.
Here is the BEFORE of Eve’s closet, picture taken yesterday.
I have no words.
I have no defense.
Other than?
Life.
Life with 3 girls and one who is responsible for this next level nonsense.
I mean SERIOUSLY?
The kid had started to stuff super cute clothing into the sleeves of a shoe organizer hanging on the left door!
Needles to say?
The situation called for us to start at the very beginning.
A very good place to start. 🙂
Wait Until You See This Small Closet Makeover & Organization
How did we start this small closet overhaul and reorganization?
We started, by removing EVERYTHING.
We took out every drawer of the dresser and moved the dresser itself out, in order to properly vacuum out the closet.
I have no comment on what type of Easter candy and chocolate bunny’s I found in the process.
This fact is probably the reason as to why I do not have a picture of this step…
I was shook.
Haha.
Once we pulled Everything out of the closet?
We realized how ugly it was! 🙂
Eve quickly suggested we paint the closet.
She knows her Momma all to well.
Because?
Of course I agreed!
So, out came the paint can that we used when I gave Eve her bedroom makeover two Spring’s ago.
The girls got busy and painted the closet in Krypton by Sherwin Williams to match the non-shiplapped walls of her coastal inspired bedroom.
Next, we began to organize the clothing and sort Summer from Winter clothes.
The Lifewit Soft Storage Plastic Storage Bags Were The Solution We Needed For Storing Out Of Season Clothing!
We folded up 12 of Eve’s heavier Winter sweatshirts and North Face Winter jackets, along with a bunch of soft cozy pullovers into just one storage bag!
These plastic zipper clothing storage bags are HUGE!
We filled the second storage bag with the handmade blankets that Eve made fore herself and friends for Christmas gifts. They are so cozy, but hard to fold and always spill out from a shelf.
The plastic storage bag was perfect for storing three of Eve’s large, handmade blankets.
We used the last plastic storage bag for Eve’s sweatpants, leggings and even placed her travel bags and book bags inside it, because they are not in use right now.
Next, we sorted her Summer tanks and arranged them by color.
Then, we moved her dresser back and placed the new soft storage bags on the upper shelf, inside the closet.
There was just one problem.
I stepped back and knew we had come so far…especially from where we started.
But?
I just knew this closet could be cuter.
That’s when I remembered I had a roll of wallpaper left over from the Coastal Powder Room makeover we completed last month.
Yep…that’s how things snowballed.
Once I remembered that one lonely roll of wallpaper sitting on a shelf in the basement?
I couldn’t un-know how cute this closet could be.
Let’s go!
This wallpaper is removable but you do need to wet it with a clean paint roller and wait five minutes before hanging the piece up on your wall.
And one piece of wallpaper at a time?
The closet got cuter. 🙂
Are you ready to see how cute this wallpapered closet looks now?
Ta da!
So much cuter right?!
A few key tips for making a small bedroom closet work.
Using the new storage bags to help organize and contain the out of season clothing was the key to unlocking the potential for this small closet space in Eve’s bedroom.
We will now, swap out her clothing for the seasons.
Put a dresser inside the closet.
When I first gave her the coastal bedroom makeover last year, I knew I needed to move a small dresser into her closet, in order to maximize the floor space of her actual bedroom, to accommodate a desk and new papasan chair.
I took measurements of what would fit inside the small nook and then found her three drawer dresser on FB marketplace!
Use dresser drawer organizers to separate small clothing items.
Right now, we have socks, underwear, sports bras, bathing suits and lax uniform in the top drawer
Use the Marie Kondo folding method.
Eve took it upon herself last year to adopt this folding method, after she and I watched the first episode of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.
This folding method REALLY does save space and also allows you to see all of your shirts at one time, versus stacking them in a pile.
Last drawer stores Summer pajamas, shorts and skirts!
You may recognize the pink skirt and high waisted shorts from last week’s post, all about where to shop for affordable, age appropriate clothing for teen girls.
You can see the where to shop for teen and pre teen clothing for girl’s post HERE.
Well friend?
I hope this post has been helpful to solve a few small space storage problems as well as be a spark of inspiration to you (or your kids who are home from school all Summer and might need a little organizing project.)
Right after I gave Evie the “green light” to enjoy her closet makeover?
She started putting in her own final touch to it…
Twinkle lights of course.
Every space is better with twinkle lights.
A girl after her Momma’s heart.
PS!
Remember when we used left over temporary wallpaper to line Eve’s desk drawers and used these amazing desk drawer organizers in this post?
These drawer organizers are also a great way to keep small desks with tiny drawers organized!
Phew!
One more Before & After comparison for the road!
Living on a prayer,
Heather
