Yesterday, I spent the morning with my Mom. (Spending time with her is a gift in and of itself)
We attended an award’s breakfast together, honoring nominees for the nationally recognized, Athena Award.
An award that recognizes women in our community, who display exemplary leadership and professional excellence.

In case you didn’t know…
I spent my younger years growing up, under the tender care and attention of a real life angel’s wing.
My Mom is a living, breathing, heart beating example of what servant leadership and professional excellence looks like.
And?
If I close my eyes and squeeze them tightly enough?
I can still remember how proud I felt as an 8 year old little girl, when I learned that my Mom had been recognized with such a special award and distinguished honor.

Yesterday morning, as I sat in the audience and listened to the video interviews of nominees sharing their individual answers to what defines their personal leadership values, I found myself inspired and challenged by their responses.
In particular, one nominee shared that she feels that the act of celebrating is an important leadership quality.
This spoke to me, because what I am realizing about myself is…
I often skip over celebrating, when it comes to marking a moment in my professional or personal growth.
And so?
Today on the blog, I am inviting you to step into the party room with me…

As I reflect, look back and celebrate this little blog of mine.
Because?
This blog baby has officially been taking up a corner of the internet for FIVE YEARS now.
I know.
It’s hard to believe.
If you’re curious at all about what I had to say exactly 5 years ago, I am inviting you to follow me to that first bog post I sent out into the world…
Hear words from me then and new words from me…today, as I mark the moment and celebrate 5 years of blogging.
Some things have changed and some things have totally stayed the same, and I’m proud of that. 🙂
Follow me friend.
Celebrating Five Years Of Blogging

I hit “publish” on my first ever blog post HERE with the posting of, “Uncertain not Unassigned,” on March 6th, 2020.
Exactly 1 week prior to when COVID came uninvitedly, crashing through our front doors and parking in our living rooms, while a worldwide pandemic poised to paralyze our world.
Back when Eve was 10, Maci was 8 and Livvy was 6 and they were all three going to the same elementary school, for what I shortly referred to as our “golden year.”

The “golden year” being the only year ever, that all 3 girls would be together under the same school roof, at the same time, in 5th grade, 3rd grade and kindergarten.
Yes, I launched my blog during a “same school bus” wrinkle in time, that would never happen again for our girls…and during a time when that golden school year, would become drastically and abruptly abbreviated…
What is the same on the blog, today as it was 5 years ago?
Today, when I sit down to write to you, I can still feel the same gentle nudges and hear the same Holy whispers on my Mom heart back in 2020.
Those same nudges and whispers continue to be the brave backbone of what has become Home with Heather and the pulse of this evolving blog.
The truth is –
Any creative work is an offering.
And every creator knows that your personal offering may or may not be received.
Friend, please know, that the fact that you continue to choose to spend your precious minutes with me here is a privilege and an honor that I do not take lightly.
So, what has remained the same here on heatherkrout.com after 5 years of blogging?
The short answer is –
My heart.
To summarize –
My heart is not inclined to suggest and sell you on self-improvement or to dump fast takes on you from the unfolding world around us.
No.
Instead, my heart is inclined and aimed to invite you to come home…
To come home to yourself.

My 2025 heart is still surrendering and desiring to remain in step with the Spirit, who led be here in the first place.
Here…
Being a place for you and I to connect, to skip a line and come up for air, to rest…
And to just be.
To be – exactly who we are –
Unfolding and blooming in the real streets and sidewalk seconds of time, while breathing our way through our personal brands of the daily grind.
What is different now, on the blog, from 5 years ago?
If you have been around for a little while, then you already know that this blog has become a big bucket for a lot of things to fit inside. 🙂

From words of encouragement, to small moments of daily life, to simple new rhythms that are currently helping adjust my mental posture, to home decorating tips, bedroom makeovers, seasonal decor, client projects, miracles and goals that have come true, personal family milestones, coffee with my younger self, to what’s saving my life right now and so much MORE.
It takes some Holy book ends to hold together the weight of all that’s going on within the digital pages of this blog. 🙂
But mostly?
This blog has rippled and evolved into my personal growing edge.
And what I have learned over the last 5 years of blogging is, that most all creative labors of love require vulnerability and risk.
My hope is that while we spend time together here, that this blog will continue to serve you as a kind companion for you, along your own path.
My prayer is that what I share here in vulnerability, about the things that I find to be life giving and working for me, that the words here will inspire you to chase down, connect the dots and spur you forward along your own forward is a pace walk of this one precious and fleeting life.
Because when it comes to what helps us – keep on keeping on?
Everything counts.
Thank you for choosing to spend your valuable time with me, and for counting me as “part of your people.”
I will never stop being thankful for your support and investment in my journey.
So, this is me sending you a BIG HUG through the giant waves of wifi…for helping me along my way, while reaching for a tissue –
Because something I know about myself…
When I take the time to celebrate, and mark the moments of what God’s been up to…
Happy tears leak out.
Thank you for being here with me.

Thank you for joining the party and helping me to celebrate 5 years of sharing publicly, on this thing we call the internet…
All the things that are unfolding, between the beats of my heart.
Living on a prayer,
Heather
