Looking for easy room refresh ideas? These two new home decor purchases changed the entire look of our family room.
If you are wondering how I cope with post-vacation blues?
No, it is not online shopping…it is shell staring.
This is a peek at my current desk situation.
If you can’t live in Sanibel…one must bring Sanibel home with you…very carefully. 🙂
I hope you enjoyed the little re-cap I shared earlier this week, in this post about all the fun things to do, where to stay and eat, while vacationing in Sanibel & Captiva.
If you didn’t know it already. It was truly special.
I recapped our memories of our week long vacation, here in this Instagram reel, capturing some of our favorite memories.
The 60 second video below, recaps 7 days of joy-filled memories. I won’t tell you how many times I have watched it myself.
My breath catches every time I let my thoughts linger on how wonderful of a time it was for all of us.
I have more thoughts on the renewing of my mind while we were away…but while I let those inner thoughts marinate a little longer, I thought it would be fun to share what else is helping me cope through a little post vacay blues.
In the form of a little home decor amazingness that was waiting for me to unbox once we returned home from vacation.
Can you guess what home decor goodness was waiting for me?
I’ll give you a hint.
In order to prepare for the new home decor item…I spray painted this before we left for vacation.
I have been planning for awhile now to refresh our family room.
And friend – so we’re clear?
By refreshing, I don’t mean changing everything.
I am specifically refreshing the family room by mainly focusing on updating the wall decor and accessories.
Slowly, I have been removing wall decor that I don’t feel connected to any longer and taking down pieces that have been in the same place for a long period of time. (I will share more on the gallery wall refresh soon…but right now it is bare. (Insert gasp!) 🙂
By taking items down…it has allowed me to see this space with fresh eyes.
Here is a picture from the Fall of the room I am slowly editing.
Are you ready to see what was in the box, ready to jump out and refresh this room?
Here is a Before picture.
Here is the AFTER
I Updated Our Family Room With These Two New Purchases
That’s right friends…curtain panels.
These curtain panels from Amazon, jumped right out and onto the walls.
Needless to say…I am IN LOVE with these new curtain panels from Amazon.
They come in several colors, and are sold as a set for a bargain price which is a BIG WIN in my book.
I also ordered these curtain clip rings in warm gold, to slide onto the curtain rod that I had spray painted gold.
If you don’t have an old curtain rod laying around that you can spray paint…
This is my favorite go-to curtain rod available in gold, black, silver and gray that I suggest for my Home with Heather clients. This curtain rod option in black, is also a great choice from Amazon.
As you can see, I spray painted my old curtain rod with this spray paint and the warm gold clips from Amazon work perfectly with it.
These drapery curtain clips are so easy to use and come in a variety of colors. I ordered two sets of the warm gold, one set for each curtain panel.
The clips simply clasp onto the built in drapery hooks on the back side of the double pleated faux linen curtain panels.
I am in love with these new faux linen curtains and the layered look they instantly provide to the walls around our plantation shutters.
Even better?
I literally pulled them out of the plastic zipper bag that they arrived in and we hung them up.
As in…I did not iron or steam these curtain panels before they were ready for their big debut.
Now, can you guess what the other “new purchase” was that helped to refresh this view?
Yep…not wall decor…and not new furniture either.
New throw pillows are adding to the re-freshed feel in our family room.
The all cream, tassel fringe pillow on the left was actually upstairs on Eve’s bed from when I gave her a coastal bedroom makeover last Spring.
It is hard to believe that coastal room refresh was a year ago this month already!
Hot Tip: Moving throw pillows from one room to another is a FREE and easy way to refresh a space!
The new additions are these two new pillows, both from Target.
I love the simplicity of this oversized woven striped pillow by Threshold at Target on the left. I bought two of them, one for each end of our sofa.
Recently, I have been drawn more and more to navy, so I picked up one of these cotton striped square throw pillows, also by Threshold at Target.
And there you have it friends.
A set of new faux linen curtain panels in “off-white” from Amazon and new throw pillows from Target are helping to refresh this room and wake it up for light and bright days ahead!
Speaking of light and bright days…
Spring is coming!
All of the bunnies are hopping their way out from the basement and making their way into the nooks and crannies of our home…like this gold bunny.
Were you around last Spring, when I scooped this gray and white bunny up from the thrift store and spray painted her gold?
In case you didn’t know already…spray painting things gold is something I do a lot around here. 🙂
You can see the before and after of the spray painted bunny and 11 Simple Ways to Decorate Your Home for Spring, here in this post.
So what do you think?
Are you team faux linen curtain from Amazon for under $75?
I am going to answer that question for you friend.
Yes…yes you are.
Because you do not need to spend a fortune to get the look you love.
And?
You don’t need to change everything in order to revive a room and make it a space you love.
I can’t wait to share with you what I am working on for the new gallery wall, that is to the left of the windows and behind the sofa in this room.
Right now it is bare…but not for long!
Stay tuned!
Living on a prayer,
Heather
