Looking for cozy ways to decorate? Here are ideas for a hot cocoa bar, decorating a Christmas tree and comfy swivel chairs for a cozy nook.
I feel like you kind of already saw this coming.
Because?
If you know me even a teensy tiny bit…then you know I have an affection for pampas grass that runs deep.
And so?
I feel like you already knew that come Christmastime…I would have a Christmas tree decorated with pampas grass in my home office.
Yes friend.
It wasn’t long after Shawn transformed the IKEA Billy bookcases into the built-in bookshelves of my dreams…that I started envisioning a Christmas tree dressed in pampas sweetly sitting in the corner.
And now?
Now, here she sits.
The tree I originally had in this corner, when I decorated the built in bookshelves for Christmas, was a little too short / small for this space so I moved it into the basement tv room.
And so?
Knowing that I just had to decorate something with pampas grass, after I removed the stems from my Fall mantel and the DIY pampas grass garland that I had made…
I decided that this tiny pencil tree was the perfect pampas fit.
Now, to be clear, I have decorated a lot of things with pampas grass…but never have I decorated a Christmas tree with pampas before.
Turns out?
Decorating a Christmas tree with pampas grass is really quite simple.
A lot messy yes, at first.
But thankfully pampas grass cleans up quick once you are all done decorating!
Want to see how I decorated my home office Christmas tree with pampas grass and where those cute brand new cozy swivel accent chairs are from?
Yay! Come with me!
Today, I am sharing quick details about the pampas grass Christmas tree, our new bouclé swivel chairs, a cozy corner in our kitchen decorated as a hot chocolate bar and beverage station, with links to the cutest tree drink dispensers (back in stock & under $20 – hurry!) as well as the new kitchen runner accent rug that I ordered from Amazon for under $50 and I am LOVING!!
Sound fun?
Let’s get on with it!
Pampas Grass Christmas Tree, Hot Cocoa Bar, New Swivel Chairs & More
We have been in full holiday home decorating prep mode this past week!
Why?
Because today from 4-7 pm, we are participating in the Holiday Home Tour to benefit Habitat for Humanity. (If you’re local and interested in tickets, they are still available HERE!)
Which means I have been sprinkling Christmas magic all over the place!
Starting off with decorating this pampas grass Christmas tree!
Here’s the scoop on how to decorate a Christmas tree was pampas grass.
First, I gathered my pampas grass stems and then?
I stated cutting off the stems at the base of where the grass plumes started shooting off from the stems.
So that, there is basically not any plain stem left.
I did this because the Christmas tree I used is a skinny pencil tree. So, when you start placing the pampas grass stem on the branches, the long stem would stick out and show through on the other side.
By cutting the stems off right at the base of the grass allowed me to place the stems onto the tree without having the stems stick out on the other side.
And then?
This happened.
This is a picture of the stems and that time when I actually snipped the cord to the lights instead of the pampas stem and the center lights in the tree sparked and went out.
Yep.
Fun times.
Hot tip – cut the pampas stems before placing them onto the tree, so that you don’t accidentally cut the wire to the lights.
Take it from a girl whose been there. 🙂
After I had a lay on the floor and want to quit moment.
I kept going.
Starting over at the top, I placed the pampas stems sticking up towards the ceiling. (Sometimes I would break the pampas plumes in half and be able to get two grassy picks out of one stem.)
As I worked my way down the tree, I started sticking the pampas stems in the tree, so that they stuck out more horizontally. Then, as I worked my way closer to the bottom of the tree, I placed the stems sticking out down towards the floor.
That’s it!
Really quite simple and easy (as long as you don’t clip the cord to the lights. 🙂
No glue, no need to use floral wire etc.
Just cut the stems at the base of the grass, place into the branches of the tree, starting at the top and work your way down.
Once all of the branches were placed on the tree, I fluffed the stems by pulling apart the plumes of pampas to help them spread out and give it a more fluffy look.
Now how about those cute new bouclé swivel chairs?
They are the Amber swivel chairs from Castlery.
I bought them on Black Friday sale and they arrived last week!
We are all in love with our new seating options! The girls especially love coming into my office after school and downloading their day with me from these cozy new chairs!
I threw a small faux fur rug on top of just one chair for an extra cozy vibe for this time of the year.
Needless to say?
We all LOVE them!
It’s hard to believe, but we have never had a chair in this bay window floor space. (I used to have my desk in the bay window space instead of in the center of the room) So, having these new chairs in the home office now, provides a completely new perspective of sight when you sit (or swivel) in them and look out into our home.
Even Maci remarked how she loves this new vantage point to chat and cozy up in.
We are so happy with this new home office furniture purchase!
Now, if you are sitting in one of the new swivel chairs and you look straight out and down towards the kitchen…
This is the cozy kitchen nook you will see peeking out.
How CUTE are these 🌲 drink dispensers?!!
They were sold out but are now back in stock so HURRY!
You can get them HERE from Walmart for $19. Also available in red.
Right after the Holiday Home Tour wraps up, we are hosting our annual Christmas caroling party!
Planning to serve lemon water in one 🌲 drink dispenser and kid friendly punch in the other!
Also planning to serve hot cocoa from a thermos, next to the tree drink dispensers so that the big kiddos can enjoy helping themselves to this hot cocoa bar and kid friendly beverage station.
The girls have officially told me that this little cozy nook is their favorite space I have decorated in our home.
Noticing that new kitchen runner?
I just ordered it a week ago from Amazon, it is under $50 and it is SO pretty!
You can see it HERE on Amazon in all of the sizes.
I ordered it in the Gray / Apricot color.
That’s where I am going to leave you! Time to get ready for the Home Tour & Caroling Party!
Can’t wait to tell you all about it next week!
Merry (almost) Christmas sweet friend!
Living on a prayer,
Heather
I absolutely love this tree! It is beautiful!!
I wanted some Pampas Grass a few weeks ago, for my Thanksgiving decorations. Our neighbors had 6 huge plants in their yard. I thought about asking them for some, but I didn’t. Then I came home one day to find that they had burned them all down! I should’ve asked!
