Happy Pumpkin Season friend!
Decorating our front porch for Fall is one of my most favorite things to do!
Starting with taking the 30 minute drive into Pennsylvania with my Mom to our favorite Amish greenhouse to shop for mums!
Just arriving here and strolling through the rows of Fall flowers and pumpkins is my own personal version of Fall therapy! 🙂

That and spending time with the best Mom in the entire world. 🙂
And in surprising news?
This year, I went with a different Fall color palette and strayed from my traditional pink and purple porch, that I have tended to lean into as my go-to Fall colors from past years.
Small Front Porch Ideas
Today on the blog, I am sharing with you what our front porch looks like today if you were to walk past our house and spot this fierce guard dog….

I am also sharing my simple formula for Fall porch decorating that makes styling your front porch easy and fun!!
From pumpkins, cozy textures and natural elements to those tiny details that make guests feel welcome, this simple formula will help you create a Fall porch that feels like home the moment you walk up to the door.
But before we jump into all things Fall aesthetic porch styling…
It’s been an exciting week for our family and we have some exciting news to share!
Earlier this week Eve (16) and Maci (14) for the first time EVER played on the same team as sisters and stepped out onto the soccer field together. (Maci was pulled up to play with Varsity to play in one of their biggest and toughest soccer games of their high school season…)

A sweet friend took the picture above and sent it to me, capturing our girls in blue playing together for the first time!! 🙂
And in even more exciting news?
The game was tied 0-0 and went into overtime.
And then?
It went into DOUBLE OVERTIME.
That’s almost 100 minutes of soccer…
And with just 3 minutes left in the double overtime…
Evie scored the WINNING goal for a 1-0 WIN!!!!!
(You can see the video of her goal and her sweet celebration HERE on my Facebook page.)

How fun is that?!
It was such an exciting game, and to have both Eve and Maci playing together for the first time and Livvy running the sidelines as ball girl – it made for one of those “core memory” making moments that will live in my Mom heart forever with pride and joy.

Our sweet Eve had a pretty exciting week, because then on Thursday evening…
This happened…

Yes.
Our Evie committed to play lacrosse at Flagler College in St. Augustine as their very first commit of their 2031 class!!
It has been an exciting ride and we are so so proud of Eve and all of her hard work and dedication.

I will have many more words to share about all of this eventually…
Because there were tears shed by her sisters who are already sad thinking about her leaving and going away to college. But thankfully, we still have a little less than 2 years left with our silly girl under our family’s roof.
You can now consider yourself up to speed on all the exciting things that have happened this past week!
And now?
Now, we are ready to jump into my Fall porch decorating formula, so that you can steal it and help make your front porch become one of your favorite places to decorate too!

Fall Front Porch 2025

This year, for our Fall porch I was inspired to decorate with more muted and moody colors of the autumn season versus the poppy bright pinks and purples I have gravitated towards in the past.

When we arrived to the Amish nursery, I spotted the small deep green colored mini pumpkins and immediately fell in love with their size and color and knew I wanted to use them!
Small white pumpkins or the new small green pumpkins are perfect for pumpkin stacking or on their own!

I also decided to go with oversized white mums for a change, inside our tall black planters to give contrast against our black painted front door.

While I was in the middle of writing this post, I searched Google for “what is the Fall color trend for 2025” and this is what Google had to say:
Fall 2025 color trends feature a vibrant mix of rich jewel tones, earthy shades, and unexpected bright colors, drawing inspiration from nature and modern aesthetics.
And that explains exactly why I was in the mood for a more earthy toned Fall decor aesthetic on our front porch this year!

I am loving the deep green of the mini pumpkins against the jewel tones of the darker mums and celosia with the contrast of the white mums.
The softer shade of the cinderella pumpkins are also always a favorite of mine!
Now that you know what our current Fall porch looks like today, let’s take a quick review of the porches of the past to glean a little more inspo for your own front porch design!

fall front porch 2012

Can you tell which one is the sweet and which one is the spice here? HA!!
We’ve come a long way baby – in more ways than one. 🙂
Yes, several years ago, we tore out the small front porch and sidewalk and installed a stamped concrete porch with a wider sidewalk to make the most of our front door outdoor space.

Fall Front Porch Decorating Formula
1. clear off your porch

Start by clearing everything off of your porch and give it a good sweep or hose it down, if needed.
Then, start adding the larger furniture or porch chairs back onto your clean porch.
Our Adirondack chairs are from Amazon and going on year 4 and still look NEW!!! Shop them HERE.
2. add a Fall wreath to your front door
I shared my new Fall wreath a few weeks ago in this post HERE: “How To Prepare For Fall”
3. shop for mums & pumpkins

I have never met a trunk full of Fall flowers and pumpkins that I didn’t love!
4. Organize your fall flowers, planters & Porch decor in groups

I always start decorating my arranging all of the mums, pumpkins and empty planters off to the side on the driveway, so that I can see what I have to work with.
Then, I begin deciding which mums or Fall flowers will go into which planters before I place them on the porch.
5. start adding your largest statement fall flowers first

I begin decorating my Fall porch by placing two oversized mums in the tall black planters to instantly add height and symmetry around the front door.
6.use a variety of planters

I mixed in two different white planters (that I also use for my Spring porch) as well as outdoor wicker planters that I picked up from our local HomeSense store.

I highly recommend mixing in all different types of planters, to add charm and a unique personality to your porch to keep it from looking cookie cutter. 🙂
7. Stack your pumpkins using a variety of pumpkin sizes

- Pro Tip: Do a pumpkin stacking test while shopping for pumpkins to make sure they will stack well when you get home.
8. Use fall flowers other than mums

I have always loved using Celosia pictured in the top left corner in the image above, also commonly referred to as “Mum Buddies.” New for my porch this year, is the vibrant red color of Cockscomb Celosia Argentea or “Twisted Red.”
The deep jewel tone colors of celosia also help to add visual height as opposed to mums that tend to be short and dome shaped. Using a variety of other Fall flowers help to add visual interest and dimension to a small front porch.
9. use cabbages & at least 1 Ornamental grass for texture

I love the different shape and texture that ornamental cabbages and grasses add to our Fall porch!
The purple cabbage pictured above helps to add that moody vibe near the deep green mini pumpkin.
Whereas, the single ornamental grass helps to add a touch of softness to the porch.

10. Layer your door mat with a larger flat weave rug

That’s a Fall porch decorating wrap my friend!
I hope you enjoyed this small porch post with a side of puppy!!

Just remember…if you happen to walk past our porch…
She is fierce…

Living on a prayer,
Heather
