Looking for home decorating inspiration for the New Year? Here are the best home decor posts with tons of easy decorating ideas, tips & more.
Yesterday, I hopped on my Instagram stories for the first time this year to share a bit of how I purposefully choose to take a slow entry approach into the New Year.
It’s not that I don’t have big dreams and desires growing in my heart (because believe me I do). 🙂
But, what I have found is that by taking time to pursue a slower and more thoughtful engagement with those big dreams and goals, the better aligned I am, with God’s will and timing, for my year ahead.
This January marks my 5th year of self proclaiming this month as my “get down, get low” season.
January is a month, where I decide to quiet myself, slow my rhythm down and refuse the rush and race into declaring big swinging goals, that the world loves to shout with LOUD intent, filled with pressures for us to grab on to and run the race harder, faster and more efficient…than the year before.
I say no thank you to all of the above.
Instead?
I pursue quiet, honest, independent reflection and a posture that holds an open and willing heart, ready to receive the realizations (both good and bad) of what bubbles to the surface…in the quiet.
I find that I am only able to reach these inner realizations, if I take the pause and nod at the invitation before me that the Winter season gently rolls out to us…year after year –
To go within, so that we don’t go without.
So that, we are poised and prepared for what will grow and come alive in the Spring, if we are willing to trust the process and put in the practice of the work, towards what and where our gut instincts are guiding us.
Much like how I tend to my heart in January, I also take this practice and tend to my home in January in the same way.
Instead of rushing into the home decor stores and bringing home MORE and NEW…
I lean into softening the surfaces of our home, simplifying the spaces, by decluttering and removing all the extras that can often make our homes look and feel noisy…
By doing this, we offer the opportunity to see the beauty in the more empty spaces…so that, new ideas and visions have room to breathe and come to life with fresh purpose.
I wrote about HOW I rest and soften our home in the New Year, HERE in this post from last January.

10. WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THIS COZY CORNER ALL DECORATED
I love that you loved this cozy corner and gallery wall because the idea and vision for this new little space was first realized last January, after I put into practice the process of removing all the things!
Once I cleared away all the clutter and removed almost everything from the surfaces, leaving only the big pieces of furniture in the room, I realized I wanted to see the glass cabinet that used to occupy this space!
After selling the cabinet that I no longer loved or needed, the space for this cozy corner opened up!
You can see what this space looked like before and how I decorated this cozy corner two different ways, HERE – Wait Until You See This Cozy Corner Decorated.

5. HOW TO MAKE A BOARD & BATTEN WALL WITH PICTURE LEDGE
Shortly, after un-decorating for Christmas last year, I came to the decision that our living room wall needed a face lift.
It was calling for something lighter and brighter, that added depth and personality, beyond paint color.
It was after we removed all the Christmas decor, wreaths and extras, that I knew putting in a board and batten wall with a small picture ledge to hold oversized frames, would answer all that my home decorating heart was craving!
