Do you have a blank wall or empty corner in your home that you don’t know what to do with? Here are 2 ways to create a cozy corner to unwind.
Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week already?!
Time just seems to keep speeding up around here!
Which is why I am remaining deeply committed to creating cozy corners to welcome quiet moments in our home! I love creating cozy spaces that invite you to linger and sink into the moment you are in.
And right now, as we begin to feel the churn of the holiday hustle start to warm her engine…
I think it’s more important that ever to aim your heart towards energy that will lean towards creating a home atmosphere, nestled with purposeful cozy nooks and spaces that offer you to come, sit and…rest and re-energize.
In fact, this sentiment and belief is exactly what my interior decorating business, Home with Heather is founded in.
I believe that the more we give energy to creating thriving spaces, the more we help to support and nurture thriving people inside.
I am so excited and honored to have been nominated for the 2nd year in a row for the Best of Harford Award!
Friend, can I ask a favor?
Will you take a quick second right now to vote for me in the category of Interior Decorating?
You can VOTE HERE.
You can actually come back tomorrow to vote again! You can vote daily for your favorite small businesses once a day, every day until December 3rd! 🙂
Thank you SO Much for your support!
In case you missed it, last week I shared the cozy Christmas bedroom that I decorated for Eve along with my two new artificial Christmas trees that we all LOVE!
So, if you need a little cozy bedroom inspo or are in the market for a new Christmas tree, be sure to check this post out HERE.
But now?
Now we are sprinkling the cozy vibes all around!
Today on the blog, I am sharing how I transformed this very bare and blah blank wall…
Into a cozy corner that if you still yourself just long enough in the kitchen, after dinner…
You can almost hear this cozy corner whisper…
“Come, sit…take a minute to rest into this moment.”
The dishes can wait! 🙂
You probably are wondering…now where is this blank wall in our home?
Well friend for too long now, I have been purposefully cropping this wall out of all of the pictures I take of our home, because it was…well it was a sad wall.
Do you have any sad, blank and boring walls you are stuck with what to do with?
In the picture below, this blank wall that I have transformed into a cozy corner is just to the left of the brown wooden chair.
This blank wall is the “garage wall” and has a door that leads out into our garage, AKA, “Shawn’s Man Cave” which you can see HERE in this post.
So friend, if you’ve ever wondered what the heck to do with a boring blank wall in your home…this post is for you!
Today, I am sharing our not so boring and blank wall any more and how I have styled it two different ways by “shopping our home” to create two different options for cozy corners!
Follow me friend – you don’t want to miss this one!
Wait Until You See This Cozy Corner All Decorated
Let’s start at the beginning.
Here is the boring blank wall that was super sad and lonely.
Now, for years we had a glass cabinet on this wall.
However, I sold the cabinet on FB marketplace last Spring, because as my taste has evolved over time.
The cabinet no longer felt right and I just knew this wall had more potential that holding space for a cabinet that I didn’t love.
The new future and re-decorating of this blank wall all started when I found these…
I found these gold and rattan sconces at T.J. Maxx while killing time in between soccer games during Maci’s tournament!
My dear friend Julie was with me and said : “YOU need these!”
I mean what are friends for!
What a fun find!
*I have linked similar gold and rattan sconces along with more of my decor sources at the bottom of this post!
Julie was right, the rattan sconces were truly my style and I knew I would to find a place to use them!
Yes, these rattan sconces inspired this blank wall transformation into a cozy corner, decorated with a gallery wall!!
Now, are you ready to see what this blank wall looks like now?
Here she is all decorated and dressed up for Christmas!
Remember, this is what we started with as I was building my cozy corner ideas out…
And now this boring blank wall is home to an inviting corner filled with twinkle and meaningful memories and most importantly offers a moment to…rest and take a load off.
No longer a boring blank garage wall!
Truly, Shawn is the one who inspired this little cozy corner, because he misses sitting near the fireplace during this time of year.
This room used to be our main family room until we swapped the rooms.
But now, this room can play double duty by serving as both our dining room and a cozy place to settle into the evening, by the fireplace.
The first thing I did to create this space was to decorate with a gallery wall.
The first rule about gallery walls is…
There are NO rules! 🙂
You simply collect art and select photographs that inspire you and that you enjoy looking at!
I loved this framed canvas of a hydrangea bouquet from Target.
I also have an affection for the old beach landscape artwork. It hung in my parents home, over their sofa , when I was a young girl growing up and I asked a friend to re-mat it for me.
For the photographs, I chose some of my favorite photos and chose to have them printed in black and white.
I found my oversized gallery frames from Home Sense but you can find similar gold gallery frames HERE on Amazon.
For the Christmas season, I decided to tie a loose silk ribbon around the sconces and I placed a suction cup hook on two of picture frames to hang a pair of simple cedar wreaths from.
Here is the scoop on non hard-wired sconces!
The answer is truly pretty simple.
It’s THESE rechargeable light bulbs from Amazon.
I showed them up close yesterday on Instagram HERE in my stories.
Long story short is, if you fall in love with sconces at T.J.Maxx but you don’t want to have to call an electrician to have them hardwired!
You simply cut the electrical cord, hang the sconce on the wall and order THESE rechargeable light bulbs from Amazon and ENJOY the ambiance!!
They come with a remote control with multiple color and brightness settings and are SO easy to remove to plug in and charge as needed!
I also chose to remove the metal return vent and my neighbor made this return vent out of this cloverleaf aluminum sheet.
(My friend, Stefana has a helpful tutorial HERE on how you can DIY your return vents for a more decorative look.)
After the gallery wall was decorated it was time to add small furniture!
I brought down the arched mirror from our bedroom and leaned it against the fireplace wall and added two of the beautiful Pre Lit Birch Trees from Amazon, that I shared how to pot in decorative planters, HERE in this post.
Next, I added in the cozy seating!
I moved our swivel chairs from my home office.
(You can see my home office decorated from Christmas last year HERE in this post.)
I wanted to keep “shopping our home” and just see how the swivel chairs looked and worked in this new cozy corner…
Turns out?
They are amazing here in this cozy corner!
I added this tree throw pillow from Target and I replaced the flat foam pillow insert that it came with, with this down feathered insert from Amazon, in order to make the throw pillow more full and high end looking.
Then, I layered the second swivel chair with this faux fur rug from Amazon in the 2×3 size and beige color.
I texted Shawn this picture of his newly transformed cozy corner and he replied with:
I LOVE IT!
I have a feeling that these swivel chairs will end up staying in this space for awhile…
But just in case, I styled another option with a small side table and wooden chair.
Are you ready to see this cozy corner styled another way?
Here is our cozy corner styled a second way!
If you have been around here for a few years, then you MIGHT just recognize that wooden chair!!
Believe it or not, I picked this chair up from the side of the road, when it was discarded as trash!
You might love the journey of this old chair and how I carried her home from the side of the road.
You can see the chair and how I sanded it down, HERE in this post:
“Home Is A Feeling – 7 Little Known Ways To Decorate Your Home For Free.”
If you read the post linked above, it will tell the story of how I love to decorate in non-cookie cutter ways.
So, which cozy corner do you prefer more?
Pair of swivel chairs…
Or side table and rescued wooden chair?
Honestly?
I love them both, but I think the swivel chairs may win out simply because Shawn and I can BOTH sit and enjoy the moments together…by the fire.
🙂

Turned out so cute you don’t even need the chairs and table.
