Looking for decorating ideas for Fall? Here is an easy recipe for creating a Fall vignette with a thrifted vase, faux pumpkins & branches.

Is it feeling like Fall yet where you live?
Here?
Not so much.
No, it’s has been record breaking HOT & humid in Maryland this week wit temperatures hitting 99 and breaking a record from 1937!
Even still, with all the hotness happening outside, I have felt inspired to break out the pumpkins inside!

When it comes to decorating with seasonal decor, my brain works best when I start with a clean slate space.
So, whatever space I am working on, I tend to empty the surfaces from the existing decor as much as possible, as seen above with the empty book shelves.
Then, I bring out the seasonal decor from storage and I sort and lay out what I want or might use for decorating.
Next, I make a pile of seasonal decor that I have moved away from and that I plan to donate or yard sale.
Side note: I am having a yard sale, Saturday, September 16th if you are local – this is your invitation to swing by!
In the picture above, everything that is inside the plastic bin is going to be sold at the yard sale, because they are items I am not feeling inspired by any longer.
Also, in the picture above, over on the left hand side is an oversized vase which I used to decorate our entry way.

I am pointing this out because, this round vase did not always look like this.
Let’s play one of our girl’s favorite games to play – eye spy.
Take a look at the picture below.

Does your eye spy the vase that now sits in my entry way?
Today on the blog, I am sharing the easy paint makeover we gave to this oversized vase from Goodwill to give it less Saved by the Bell Vibes and More Pottery Barn vibes.

Wait Until You See This Fall Decor & Thrifted Vase

Here’s the scoop on the thrifted vase and how it inspired the creation of my Fall entry way vignette.
While dropping items off to Goodwill this week, I decided to spare five minutes and park the car for a quick peek.
I am realizing that I tend to gravitate towards Goodwill thrifting in the Fall, because that is when my brain usually feels a little overwhelmed. Over the years, I have found that giving myself a little creative playground and getting busy working with my hands, usually helps slow my brain down and allows me to work on something that has zero pressure.
Reflecting on this realization along with these three things that I shared on the blog HERE last week in this post, “Three Things That Are Helping Me To Respond To Life Right Now” are really helping me right now.
(P.S. – I heard from a lot you that you really enjoyed last week’s post, which always makes my day.) 🙂
When I spotted this vase on the bottom shelf, next to a pair of sad lamps, I knew that this oversized vase could be a great project for the girls and I to paint and spend time together.

I find that diving right in, after I bring home a thrifted treasure is the best time to tackle the transformation, while my inspiration is still fresh.
Thankfully, with the heat wave, sports practices have been cancelled so we jumped right into painting the vase and giving it a Pottery Barn dupe makeover on Thursday night!
I used the same paint steps and recipe as I have in the past when I transformed this Goodwill lamp.

You can get the exact step by step instructions on how I transformed this lamp into a Potter Barn look alike and saved hundreds, HERE in this post.
In a nut shell, you need a quart of paint, salt, baking powder and paint brushes and you are ready to roll!

For this saved by the bell vase transformation I used Aesthetic White and Anew Gray, both by Sherwin Williams
I poured each color into a separate plastic container and mixed in salt and Baking soda into the paint mixtures.
I go into more specifics and the exact methods in the lamp transformation post here.

Projects like these are always more satisfying when the girls want to get involved, because it feels like a Win Win!
The win being, spending time together, allowing them to be creative alongside me, while we work together to create something new!
These are the things that make my heart happy!
We got busy painting and mixing layers of the two colors onto the vase and before we knew it…

The vase was looking much less Saved by the Bell and More Pottery Barn chic!

After the vase dried overnight, she was ready to receive the crowning decor to her makeover!
These Fall Ginko Leaf artificial stems from Kirkland’s that I picked up ON SALE! (along with the most realistic looking faux pumpkins!)

These Ginko leaf stems are on sale right now and come in a bundle of three stems tied together.
I bought three bundles for a total of nine stems to style inside by Goodwill vase.

I shared a time lapse video of HOW exactly I styled these artificial Fall branch stems in my newly thrifted Goodwill vase HERE on Instagram yesterday.
What do you think?

Oversized faux concrete vessels are all the rage right now in the interior decorating world. I love how my little find at Goodwill took on a life of it’s own and inspired this little Fall vignette, right inside out front door!

While I was at Kirkland’s I also picked up these realistic faux pumpkins in an 8 inch and 10 inch size and this oversized sherpa pumpkin pillow for extra cozy on the sofa!

When it comes to decorating for the seasonal changes, I find that I tend to usually start my decorating with the entry way.
This little space is not only the first space our guests see when they walk in the door, but it’s a quick and easy place to add small touches that provide big impact when wanting to decorate with seasonal decor.

So, creating a small vignette with seasonal decor items that are currently inspiring me, feels energizing and not overwhelming.
The magical thing about starting with a small space and purposefully styling it…is that it has a ripple effect.
All of a sudden you will get into a groove and begin decorating the adjoining spaces. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed the journey of the the little thrift store vase that could and how it inspired my Fall vignette in our entry!
