Looking for Fall front porch decorating ideas? Here is a cozy Fall front porch and easy steps to help you get the look with Fall porch decor.

Can I tell you something?
My heart is still SO warm from your tender comments, “I needed this message” texts and personal shares from this blog post over the weekend.
Who knew how many of us “needed to hear this” message.
In case, I haven’t said it recently.
I am so thankful for you.
I am thankful that when I write words here…that you continue to show up to read them, receive them…and that you share with me – that somehow the words here…help you.
This little blog has slowly become a community over the last 2.5 years.
And, I am so grateful that when I write a blog post that touches your heart, or helps to strengthen your spirit…that you circle back and share that with me.
Your messages meant so much after I shared my heart last week HERE.
Do you know something else?
I am so proud of these girls.

Not only did they wake up at the crack of dawn, on a weekend, when they would have loved the chance to sleep in as back to school exhaustion is high around here. (Anyone else?)
But these three sisters worked at 10 hour day, by participating in their first vendor event with the grand opening of “The Sister Shoppe” where they sold out in record time all of the clay bead bracelets they had made!

And once they sold out?
They continued making bracelets on the spot by taking custom orders! Needless to say, their tiny fingers were tired – but when the day was done?
They packed up and helped me to collapse the 10X10 tent and rolled it to the car. They worked hard from start to finish and I could not be more proud of them! 🙂
We have been fielding many requests for online orders, inquiries about an Etsy shop etc…
As their customer relations representative 🙂 “The Sister Shoppe” would like me to share, that they are indeed continuing to take custom orders for bracelets ($5 each).
Simply send the sisters a message HERE and they will email you back to get your order details!

Moving on!
Are you ready for some Fall Front Porch Inspiration?
Oh yay!
I had SO much fun yesterday, decorating our front porch for Fall and I can’t wait to share it with you along with links to some same and similar Fall decorations that will help you to recreate this look for your own Fall front porch.
Let’s start at the beginning – purchasing your mums.

Every year, my Mom and I make a trip to Pennsylvania to purchase our Fall mums together. (I shared 3 simple tips on how to keep your mums alive HERE last week.)
It’s one of my favorite Fall traditions. I am often asked by local friends, the information of the greenhouse because their prices are AMAZINGLY LOW. I shared the business card and info about the greenhouse at the bottom of this blog post.
And now – are you ready to see how the Fall porch came together?
Let’s Go!
When it’s time to refresh any space, whether it’s a room in your home or in this case the patio outside…I always start like this.

A clean slate is super important in the creating process.
Were you around last Fall when this front door trim and storm door were still white?
In case you missed the before and after of this front door makeover, you can see the dramatic change HERE in this blog post.
I was blown away by all of the positive feedback and comments from strangers passing by, who LOVED the new look of our front door! In short – if you are contemplating painting your front door – DO IT!
Our painted front door looks so much more stately now that I painted the front door and the trim and the storm door all black to match each other.
Now, getting back to Fall front porch decor –
Once I had removed all of the front porch decor from the Summer off of the front steps, I also swept the porch and cleaned the windows of the sidelights and storm door.
Seeing a space with a fresh clean slate enables you to envision new ways of styling a space.

And then, I got busy decorating to create our Fall Front Porch!

What do you think?
Let’s look at that clean slate start again.
This is what we started with –

This is the Fall Front Porch Decor that we have now.

I think Willa Pup feels some sense of need to stand guard on pumpkin patrol. 🙂

Actually, Willa Pup just loves to watch the girls play four square with the neighbors from this porch perch. 🙂
Ok now – are you ready for a few tips on how to decorate your front porch for Fall?
Let’s break this Front porch decorating process down!
Wait Until You See This Fall Front Porch
Once you have removed all of your porch decor, swept and tidied the space – you are ready to decorate your Fall front porch.
Get The Look –
Tips & Steps to Decorating A Fall Front Porch
Gather all of the items you think you might want to use to decorate.
I staged all of the porch decor, flowers, pots, rugs and lanterns on the driveway.

Begin by adding the foundational pieces first.
I laid down a 3×5 area rug first and hung a Fall wreath on the door.

The exact 3×5 tan plaid area rug, shown here is by Threshold designed with Studio McGee. Unfortunately, it is sold out currently at Target.
However, HERE is a similar 3×5 neutral stripe rug and another pretty gray stripe option HERE, also from Target.
Here are a few more similar stripe or plaid options in a 3×5 size from Amazon & Home Depot – HERE, HERE and HERE.
- I recommend a 3×5 size rug if you are layering your front door mats. If you are not planning to layer your mat, a 2×3 mat work alone.
Layer the larger area rug with a smaller door mat.
Add height with pairs of large planters and tall solar lanterns.

My pumpkin door mat is linked here and is on Sale Now for Under $12.
I am linking similar solar lanterns HERE from Amazon.
You might remember from when I decorated our porch this past Spring, HERE in this post, that I bought my black and white solar lanterns from Bed Bath & Beyond. They are no longer available at BB&B.
However, these solar lanterns or these solar lanterns will give you the same look for tall solar lanterns along with this shorter set of solar lanterns here.
For years, I drove myself crazy with battery operated lanterns on the porch and I am SO happy I made the decision to invest in solar lantern lights for our front porch.
Solar lanterns lit up at night, just make me HAPPY 🙂

Linking similar set of tall planters here.
One mistake, I often used to make when decorating my Fall porch was…only using mums for flowers!
Incorporating other flowers, such as cabbages or “Mum Buddies” into your Fall front porch is a game-changer!
Mum buddies are simply plants and florals that work well with mums!
I added 3 of these Mum Buddies that I picked up from our local Shoprite store (on sale right now 3 for $17) to add a little texture, diversity and height to the sides of my Fall front porch.

Don’t tell my mums…
but I actually think that I love my Mum Buddies more than my mums.
Shhhhhhhhh.

Use BASKETS instead of pots.
Add mums to baskets and place around the foundational decor pieces.
TIP: Use empty plastic flower pots turned upside down, & place inside a basket to give your mum the “boost” it needs to sit at the correct height.

Mix & Match your planters.
Don’t be afraid or stress over having every pot or basket match or be the same color – it’s actually better to mix it up!

I decided I wanted to mix and match my flower pots and baskets, using neutral tones and different textures.
I had fun shopping our local stores for both flower pots and baskets that were calling my name. 🙂
For my Fall front porch, I decided to look for cream colored ceramic pots to go with my neutral colored baskets in order to create a warm, cozy and welcoming vibe to our front porch.
I found two white ceramic geometric designed pots along with the natural colored basket (pictured above) at our local T.J. Maxx.

I almost did a little jump in the aisle, when I spotted this gray and cream basket on the Clearance shelf in the back of our T.J. Maxx. 🙂
It was missing a small metal bracket at the top of the handle, no big deal!

I recommend looking for water resistant woven baskets.
(Linking a few baskets at the bottom of this post, I also spotted more of these types of woven water repellant baskets at HomeSense.)
Of course we can’t forget the pumpkins!

I like to pick at least two cinderella or fairytale pumpkins and stack them on top of each other.
And, then I keep adding single pumpkins into the nooks and crannies created in between the flower pots, outdoor baskets and lanterns.

Finish the Fall Front Porch decor by tucking sprigs of dried flowers or faux Fall leaf branches into small open spaces.

For the finishing touches to my Fall front porch, I shopped my Mother’s front yard and clipped off a few more hydrangea branches. You might recognize them from my IKEA hack built-in bookshelf hack post HERE, because I have another bunch of them gathered in a woven basket in my new home office.
Short story?
If you have or know someone who has, a hydrangea bush or tree, ask them if you can come over and cut some clippings – these branches are perfect and just the right price for decorating for Fall.

Last but not least – carry the look over to driveway!
I added a mum on either side of our garage door in these black urns.

And that my Fall loving friend –
Is A Fall Front Porch Decor Wrap!

I hope this post has inspired you to sweep off the porch and pick up a pumpkin or two.
And friend?
Remember –
You don’t need to have a big front porch to welcome Fall through your door.
A fresh new front door mat, a single mum inside a woven basket and a cinderella pumpkin, nestled beside – will do wonders for your Fall loving heart.
No matter what type of porch or front steps you have, I hope these simple steps and easy tips on how to decorate your front porch for Fall make it a little easier for you to welcome the new season ahead.
And after you finish decorating?
Step back and enjoy the view. 🙂

And don’t forget
to enjoy your Fall front porch at night!
Thank you rocking chairs and solar lanterns. 🙂

Living on a prayer,
Heather
