Looking for ways to maximize the space you have in your home to hang out? Here is a garage converted into a man-cave for everyone to enjoy.
My husband didn’t know he wanted a man cave in the garage.
Until?
Until, we did this home improvement project a few years ago, that created a huge ripple effect of rearranging our entire first floor.
And, while we were in the middle of re-thinking the layout and use of the rooms on our main level?
I suggested something that almost made my husband fall over from shock.
I suggested that we NOT hang the T.V. back up, over the fireplace mantel, on the large wall that he had just shiplapped.
And instead?
Hang the television up IN THE GARAGE.
I shared more about this room rearranging, furniture swapping and the reason why I didn’t want to hang the TV back up over the fireplace, HERE in this post, along with all the pictures.
Long story short?
We wound up cleaning out the garage in 2020, along with every other family attempting to survive Covid shutdowns at home, and we did decide to relocate the television...to the garage!
Below, are “Before” pictures of our garage in 2020, and of course the great garage clean-out during Covid.
Noticing the built-in cubbies, on the right wall?
Having a friend build these garage lockers for us, to create a mud-room in the garage has been a life-saver!
You can see more pictures and details on our built-in garage lockers that serve as the sports and school drop-zone, HERE in this post.
Back to the Garage Man-Cave refresh.
It turns out that over the last two years, this new little television viewing, hang-out area, has evolved…and become an extra room and created more space for our daughters to spread out and for Shawn to hang-out.
Can I get an Amen?! 🙂
And thanks to a few hand me downs of furniture over the last two years?
We have added more comfortable seating to the tune of two Lazyboy recliners and a sofa!!
But the most recent updates to this garage, hang-out area, (and they might surprise you) have now taken this “never knew we wanted it” space to an entirely new level of…
“This garage hang-out man-cave space is AMAZING!”
Are you ready to see what this space looks like now?
Come and see…
Now, before you scroll down and jump to the garage man-cave reveal…I think I should warn you.
Because, what you are about to see is something that even my very best friend in the entire world, never thought she would see me do.
Are you ready?
I painted a wall black.
And by “I”…I mean Shawn. 🙂
Yes friend, I know.
I suggested to Shawn that we paint the main wall of the garage BLACK.
As in B.L.A.C.K.
Tri-corn Black by Sherwin Williams, in a matte finish to be exact.
Even Shawn hesitated and couldn’t picture it.
But, I told him to trust me…and he did.
And now?
This garage chill zone space went from this…
To this.
To this.
Did you catch that Shawn also upgraded the size of the T.V.? 🙂
And after the new television upgrade…
The final verdict?
Shawn absolutely loves his new garage man-cave.
A few additional changes that we made to refresh this man-cave, garage hang-out:
- We painted the trim of the doorway and the step going into the house in the same black as the color of the wall to help it all blend.
- We added a plant from the patio and will replace with a faux plant soon.
- We bought this high traffic area rug from Home Depot in black to ground the space.
Deciding to paint the main wall in Tricorn Black (I think we might wind up painting the ceiling black too), adding this new black area rug and refreshing the wall decor has now elevated this garage hang out to a place we all want to chill out in!
And while some things change?
One thing always stays the same…
I don’t usually decorate with deer head decor…but in this case…it works. 🙂
Oh and if you are looking for Shawn on Sunday?
I think I know where you will find him. 🙂
You see…
Sometimes listening to the wife…(even if her ideas sound crazy at first)...pays off in the long run.
Here’s to making the most of the home and space you have…one room re-think at a time.
Living on a prayer,
Heather
