Looking to refresh your powder room? Wait until you see this powder room wallpaper, herringbone tile, neutral vanity and gold light fixture.
I am giggling writing this post.
Because?
Because, I have lost track of the number of months it has been since we started this powder room remodel…and how many times I have been asked how the bathroom remodel is going.
Yes, it’s been a minute since we started the demo on this DIY bathroom renovation.
In review…this is a “Before” picture of the powder room in progress.
Surely, time has been sparse and these DIY home projects are forced to take a backseat when Spring sports and life has us traveling in 3 different directions all weekend long.
But really?
I was hesitating on my wallpaper decision.
You might recall from this post, “The Secret Step To Planning Your Home Projects & Powder Room Mood Board” I shared one wallpaper design that initially caught my eye.
But when the time came to pull the trigger and order?
I just knew it wasn’t quite right.
And so?
I kept on researching during the nooks and crannies of my middle minute time.
And then?
I found the perfect wallpaper and shared the designer and her website in this post a few weeks ago, among the list of “What I’m Loving Right Now” Vol. 3.
And while the powder room is not 100% complete (fingers crossed we finish it in the coming week and plan to share the full reveal with all the pretty finishing touches next week.)
While this bathroom remodel is not entirely finished…I thought it was time to share and answer the question:
“How’s the powder room remodel going?”
Because, while I love the drama around a big before and after?
It’s the progress, the pauses, the pondering, and positive small steps forward that really deserve the applause.
In other words?
It’s in the “small doing moments” that make the “big changes” possible.
Actually, I camped out on this “messy middle” stage of projects, HERE in this post, when we were in the middle of this bathroom renovation for our daughter’s bathroom.
So today?
We are celebrating the progress that has been made to this powder room, though not fully complete…we are so far away from where we started.
Much because of new gorgeous wall paper, beautiful herringbone tile floor and a natural toned vanity.
Yes, these are the key players in this powder room makeover project.
And well?
They deserve to have their own moment in the spotlight.
So, if you want to find out how the powder room remodel is coming along, see the before, during and almost completed bathroom, and get some bathroom remodel inspiration for yourself?
You are in the right place.
Come and see…
This is a throw back to our powder room, before I added the peel and stick wallpaper several years ago.
And while the botanical peel and stick wallpaper from Anthropologie served as a temporary band aid for this space while I was concentrating on our DIY kitchen design?
The time had come for the full out gut and remodel!
Can I just tell you that while we were busting up this white ceramic tile floor…I had flash backs to us removing the same floor tiles that covered the old kitchen floor.
You can see our complete kitchen remodel, full of before and after pictures, HERE in this post.
Similarly, to how we got our daughters involved in the demo of the kitchen floor…they jumped right into this DIY project and each took a turn with the sledge hammer.
And after all that floor demo?
Came the fun part.
Installing this Angora herringbone tile from Home Depot.
You may have voted on my Instagram stories a few weeks (or months) ago on the two tile choices I had narrowed the new bathroom flooring down to.
Most of you voted for this Carrara White Hexagon tile, which I also loved.
But I knew I really wanted to bring in a slight variation of color to mix my favorite go to colors of white, blue and gray along with some ivory and neutral tones.
Ultimately, I was going for a coastal powder room look, which is what helped guide me and ultimately decide on this Angora Herringbone tile.
Also, I selected this herringbone tile that offered a rich color variation because I knew it would play off of the natural toned vanity I was eyeing up, also from Home Depot.
After the flooring was installed…it was time to get to work on the walls, by way of hanging vertical shiplap.
Yes, you already know my love for all things shiplap.
Oh the walls we have shiplapped.
From our first BIG wall of shiplap, to the shiplap walls in our kitchen behind our open shelves, to our daughter’s coastal bedroom makeover, to this shiplap ceiling and the shiplapped wall in my Mom’s beach condo.
But hanging this vertical shiplap?
This vertical shiplap was a first for us.
And?
WE LOVE IT!
When hanging the vertical shiplap, I knew I only wanted it to go up 3/4 of the wall to leave the top quarter for?
Wallpaper of course.
While I was in deep wall paper decision making?
Shawn installed this Kohler Highline Arc toilet and this gorgeous natural toned bathroom vanity in Antique Oak finish and Carrara Marble top.
And then?
I finally found and decided on this wallpaper by Jennifer Latimer.
Are you ready?
Wait Until You See This Powder Room Wallpaper
Let’s go back to see where we started, just for fun.
And all the angels sang.
Kidding.
But?
I was doing a happy dance.
This wallpaper is Corfu Blue by Jennifer Latimer.
I used three 12′ rolls in the Medium repeat size.
While this wallpaper is not peel and stick it is removable (strippable) and easy to install.
We started by hanging the first piece in the far left corner of the bathroom.
To apply, we used a clean paint roller and ran it under water for a few seconds and then rolled the wet roller to the back of the wallpaper.
The instructions that come with the wallpaper direct you to wait 5 minutes to allow the glue on the back of the wallpaper to activate.
And then?
We were in wallpaper whistle while you work mode! 🙂
Once the wallpaper was complete, Shawn was able to install this bathroom light fixture in champagne gold.
I am love love loving this light fixture.
Also loving?
This screw-less wall plate for the outlet and this screw-less light switch wall plate
Not only do I love that you do not see the screws on the face of the wall plate…I love their price tag!
Plus, I did not want something on the wall that would be a distraction from the pretty wallpaper and the new mirror that is about to be hung up this weekend. 🙂
You can see in the picture below, how the screw less wall plates just blends into the shiplap, which is painted in Alabaster by Sherwin Williams.
You will also see in the picture above, that I chose to hang this Delta toilet paper holder on the side of the vanity, in an effort to hide it and also not have it be a distracting, yet is an essential part of the powder room. 🙂
There you have it friend.
The powder room progress update.
From the gorgeous herringbone bathroom tile floor…
To the vertical shiplap, the neutral wood tone vanity, champagne gold light fixture and the small essentials of light switches and a T.P. holder.
So now?
Now we are ready for the REALLY fun part…decorating with the finishing touches!!
Don’t worry!
I will be sharing the FINISHED powder room full reveal next week, on the blog, so stay tuned!
I have plans for that empty small and awkward corner next to the toilet. 🙂
Want a sneak peek?
Here is the vanity mirror, patiently waiting to be hung up.
And these super cute Turkish hand towels from Amazon, are waiting to take their rightful place in the powder room pecking order.
I can’t wait to show you the FINAL finishing touches to complete this powder room remodel next week!!
Tell me!
Do you LOVE the wallpaper too?!
Living on a prayer,
Heather

I love the whole transformation! I am also installing vertical tongue and groove 3/4 up my bathroom wall. I’m curious how you hung your mirror.
Thanks,
Jennifer
Heather Krout says
Thank you Jennifer! We cut out a small notch for the mirror to hang on the wall and lay flat inside the vertical shiplap. 🙂
Charlain Swenson says
Hello! Love what you have done with this powder room. The vertical shiplap inspired me to add this to my bathroom remodel. What type of shiplap do you use?
Heather Krout says
Hi Charlain! Thank you so much! My husband buys our shiplap from Home Depot, we prefer the wider plank when it is in stock! We used a wider plank in my Mom’s beach condo, which you can see on my website by searching “shiplap” or this link will take you to the post with the wider plank shiplap: https://heatherkrout.com/3-easy-ways-to-refresh-a-room-make-it-feel-larger-plus-a-beach-home-makeover-shiplap-shells-and-shades/
Also, we always paint our shiplap in Alabaster by Sherwin Williams!
Hope that helps!
🙂
Charlain Swenson says
Yes, it does. Is it MDF or pine? Putting this in our bathroom behind and next to our vanities.
Heather Krout says
This is MDF! So exciting about your project! Have fun with it! 🙂 Heather
Heather Krout says
Thank you so much Charlain!! Would love to know how your bathroom project is going! We use shiplap from Home Depot!
