Looking for a little pick me up? Be inspired with these mood boosting ideas & a few items that are both functional and beautiful home decor.
Does this ever happen to you?
You are preparing to go out of town for a trip, when suddenly you are struck with this strange need that everything in your house needs to be cleaned out…refreshed and re-organized?
Right NOW.
It all starts with the harmless, “I think I will just pull out my suitcase.”
And then – Bam!
All of the sudden, you are standing in your closet, sorting and throwing clothes into ‘donate’ and ‘keep’ piles.
The suitcase is empty but the floor is full of articles of clothing.
And then?
Then you go into the bathroom, intending to set aside a few miscellaneous skin care items for the trip and…
Bam!
Every drawer is dumped and you are now sitting cross legged on the floor surrounded by hair ties and head bands and eye cream from 2010.
No – never happen to you?
Mmmkay – just me then.
Well – this was the current situation over here my friends.
We leave for our much anticipated vacation to Sanibel Island next Saturday and your girl over here is going gangbusters. (Does anyone even say that anymore? It felt funny just now…hmmm, so I am thinking maybe we have moved on from gangbustin‘ and now we are just bustin‘.)
Well this crew is just about to bust out of Maryland (Lord willing) next week and due to this urge to organize everything, refresh and restyle spaces before we leave? I thought it would be fun to share a few things I am loving and have found helpful to re-organize and re-fresh our home.
Plus, Valentine’s Day is on Monday!
What better time to share inspiration on day to day practices that are helping my heart right now, along with a few suggestions of functional and beautiful home decor items I am loving right now.
(PS – I think this whole leaving for vacation and organizing along the way, is similar to me having an issue with putting folded laundry into messy drawers of our daughters dressers…does that happen to you? I am having trouble pulling things out to pack and leaving the remaining items in dusty disarray. – Please tell me I am not alone in this nonsense!) 🙂
Ok friend – this post happens to be “Volume 2” of Things I am loving right now, just in case you missed “Volume 1” of “What I am loving right now,” you can see it here in this post.
The short story of what I am loving right now?
Tulips and these pink bunny tail pampas grass are getting me through Winter my friends…along with a few other things.
Now that you know the short story, here is the rest.
If I am being honest?
Winter is my least favorite season.
And?
I can easily slip into a low grade weariness if I am not careful.
Maybe you too?
Good news friend!
Come sit next to me…
You are in the right place for a pick me up!
Let’s go!
What I Am Loving Right Now – Volume 2.
1. I am loving my habit of Praise before my feet touch the floor.
I find it helpful to lay down some guard rails for my day that help keep me moving along, in the flow of where I want to go.
I am loving (and have been for awhile) the habit of repeating a certain praise in my mind a few times, rolling it over again and again in my mind, until I am ready to open my eyes for the day.
The first thought is this:
“Thank you God for this day.”
I wrote more in depth about forming this habit, here in this post.
This one thing has honestly has changed everything.
2. I am loving my early morning meeting with Venus.
Every morning, I wake up early and take our Willa pup out.
As she is busy sniffing?
I am busy staring – UP.
I stare up at Venus and I am reminded that God is so very, very real.
3. I am loving a morning walk or run.
The last 6 weeks have been hard for me to muster the will to run in the brutal cold, but this week I began again.
Isn’t it so helpful to remind ourselves, that even if we have fallen out of a habit of something that is good for us…it doesn’t have to be a long road back?
This morning run is something I love. I usually listen to a podcast or my praise music and it gets those good feeling endorphins going at just the right pace for my day.
4. I am loving these drawer organizers.
You knew it was coming.
The whole packing for vacation and the need to organize every drawer in the house is real friends.
What has made organizing our drawers even more fun is re-purposing the temporary wallpaper that I removed from our powder room and re-using it as drawer liners!
And just in case you are wondering, if it is hard to remove temporary wallpaper?
You can see here in my IG reel and stories just how EASY it was to peel off this wallpaper in our powder room.
The powder room is currently going through a remodel right now, you can see the process along with the bathroom mood board I created for inspiration here in this post.
Now, back to your drawer organizing.
You could use adhesive contact paper or shelf liner like this cute wave print to line your drawers before you organize with these clear, plastic trays from Amazon.
We ordered one set and organized my bathroom vanity, the girls bathroom vanity and Eve’s desk!
These drawer organizers took the girl’s bathroom situation from this:
To this!
We remodeled this bathroom during Covid quarantine and I am loving how these organizers fit perfectly in this vanity. You can see the before and after of this bathroom remodel, here in this post.
Here are the drawer organizers in Eve’s desk:
And here they are in my bathroom drawer.
Before:
After!
Safe to say…I am loving these drawer organizers right now…they are helping me feel ready to go on vacation, knowing all the drawers are tucked in just right! 🙂
4. I am loving spray painting items GOLD!
I have been known to spray paint random home decor items gold in the past, like the thrift store bunny I rescued and revived, in this post, last Spring.
My love for spray painting items gold runs deep.
Do you ever spot the super cute deck decor that is shiny gold…I always admire it at Target especially…
Just this week, we took our love of gold desk decor into our own hands and Eve and I spray painted this purple stapler gold.
So cute and such a fun free makeover for this “Little stapler that could!“
The lid to her pink desk jar was also looking worn, so we gave her a fresh coat of gold spray paint.
And while, I was at it?
I spray painted a spare silver curtain rod…I have plans for this curtain rod – so stay tuned!
5. I am loving this rattan lamp.
Ever since I picked this rattan lamp up for Eve’s coastal bedroom…I have been plotting how to steal it without her noticing. 🙂
I think I may just have to buy a second lamp just like it and perhaps use it on our console table in our entryway that I just restyled this past week. I tried a lamp there already and loved the way it looked.
(You can see the 4 different ways I styled our entryway, here in this post. )
I love the white ceramic base to this lamp and the size is just right for a desk or console table.
Not only am I loving the look of woven rattan lamp shades…I am also loving woven lamp bases.
I also recently picked up a pair of woven rattan lamps from HomeSense. I am using one here on our side table in the family room and one on Shawn’s nightstand in our bedroom.
6. I am loving these salt & pepper shakers.
I am embarrassed to admit how long our family has gone without a pair of everyday salt and pepper shakers.
When a certain neighbor friend would come over for dinner and ask for the salt and pepper, I would shyly hand him the large cylinder of salt and metal pepper shaker from the store.
Not so cute.
Finally, I found this salt and pepper set from Amazon and love how they not only solve my S&P problem but also serve as cute kitchen counter decor!
Even better?
They are $15.
Yes please!
7. I am loving this set of Amber Glass Soap Dispensers in Brushed Gold
Between the addition of the new salt and pepper shakers and now this set of Amber Glass Dish & Hand Soap dispensers?
My kitchen is feeling the love.
I am just loving how pretty, yet functional kitchen decor can be!
These bottles come with 4 different waterproof labels so you can decide if you want to leave them blank or add a label to them.
I may decide to leave one blank and use it in the powder room, once it is complete.
In any case…I am loving this soap dispenser set. You can see them here on Amazon and select which finish you prefer for the pumps.
8. I am loving tulips.
Have you picked up your tulips yet from the store?
Remember what I shared earlier this week, at the bottom of this post.
Cut the stems, remove the bottom leaf, fill the vase with COLD water, and put a penny in the bottom!
Then sit back and let them make you smile!
Friend, I don’t know if it’s all because of the re-organized and refreshed spaces around here…but I am also loving looking at the Winter season from a renewed lens.
One that stares out at it’s lavender evening skies and deep inky mornings and accepts it for what it is…
A time for rest.
A time for soul soothing.
A time for low and slow.
A time for pause and healing from hurry.
A time to re-familiarize ourselves with what…but mostly WHO we love.
Happy early Valentine’s Day dear friend.
Living on a prayer,
Heather
Dear Lord,
Thank you for making me in your image. Please help me to love what you love. Please teach me to be a good steward of my words and to speak love. Please shape my heart so that is aligned with your desires for my life and create in me a heart that deeply desires to seek your heart.
Amen.

You are not alone in your “urge to purge” mania when starting to pack to leave on a trip. I’m afflicted with the same mania. I think that, in my case, it’s a procrastination move to avoid having to decide what to pack, lol! I also go nuts cleaning the entire house before we leave as well as washing all the bedding and towels. It’s so nice to come home to a clean house and fresh, crisp bedding after a trip….especially when you know you’ve got loads of laundry from the trip to wade through and all of the assorted sundries that need to be unpacked and put away. Crazy? Maybe. But another way of looking at it is that we’re crazy like a fox….taking advantage of whatever moves us in the moment to purge!
I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who goes crazy cleaning right before you leave for a vacation! It WAS wonderful to come home to a clean home!! Thanks for sharing!! XO, Heather
Your blog is inspiring in every way.
Thank you SO much Nancy for such a kind comment – your words mean a lot to me! I am so thankful to hear you are enjoying my blog. Thanks for being here! XO, Heather
