Today, two of our girls have soccer tryouts for their club teams.
And when I asked one of our daughters where one of the missing soccer balls was?
She pointed to this…
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_9012-768x1024.jpg)
Apparently the soccer ball had been accidentally kicked across the street and into this.
And that mound of green shrubbery?
It is full of stickers.
But?
I was determined to find this missing soccer ball.
And so, I slipped on my Sperry’s and hopped the fence.
Honestly, as I searched, and peered through the thick branches, I thought it was gone forever.
I was almost about to give up the soccer ball search and rescue mission.
But before I resigned my efforts, I slopped through the swamp, moving to the far side of the stickers, socks now wet from water sludging in.
I sent up a little arrow prayer to God, asking Him to help me find this stinkin’ soccer ball.
And then, as I lifted another sticker branch from the far side?
I spotted it.

Now for the real question.
Did I really want to slither inside the stickers to save it?
If you know your girl by now…
Then, you already know the answer.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_9014-768x1024.jpg)
You bet I did.
I literally just pulled another sticker out of my hand as I am typing this.
But, this little soccer ball search and rescue was not all about me saving the soccer day for our daughters.
I also wanted to clip some green branches to decorate our kitchen island with.
Which brings me to today’s post.
This post is another “reader request” post, as one of my dear girlfriends emailed me after she read my post last week, revealing our powder room wall paper.
This is what she said:
“I need help on centerpieces for your dining room table, when it’s not a holiday. I just put away Easter and now the table is bare and I don’t know what to put there.”
And so?
In this post, I am sharing 3 super simple ways to decorate your kitchen island OR your dining table.
Because?
You will see that these simple kitchen decor vignettes, can easily transfer to your dining table with a few simple tweaks.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/how-to-decorate-your-kitchen-island-decor-768x1024.jpg)
In each of these examples on how to decorate your kitchen island or dining table, you will see that I use a “grounding piece” to place practical and pretty accessories on top of.
I will swap the grounding piece for each of the three kitchen counter styling inspiration photos, from using a large cutting board, an oversized metal tray, a round woven tray a “bonus vignette” using a lazy susan.
Do you want to see how to decorate your kitchen island, counters and dining table for “every day“, when it’s not a holiday?
Let’s go friend!
I am going to keep this post short and sweet, few on words and plenty on the pics.
3 Easy Ways To Decorate Your Kitchen Island & Dining Table
Decorate Your Kitchen Island & Dining Table With A Cutting Board
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/how-to-decorate-your-kitchen-island-or-dining-table-decor-768x1024.jpg)
First, I brought in my green branches that I had snipped while on the soccer ball search.
I filled up this super cute vessel, that I just picked up from Home Sense last week. It is actually for a candle. but because it is entirely glass, I decided I like it better as a vase.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_9035-768x1024.jpg)
The oversized cutting board is from IKEA.
I love to use it as a grounding piece for decorating my kitchen island. I also love standing it up and using it to decorate our open shelves in the kitchen.
I also have a smaller cutting board, that I like to stand up and use to decorate our kitchen counter with.
Here, I am using the cutting board to hide the cord to this small lamp, on our kitchen countertop.

For this cutting board vignette, I used a small wooden riser, to help elevate my coffee mugs and spoons, in order to create a variety of heights, between the vase with green branches, the coffee cups and the candle.

In order to transfer this look to the decorate your dining table for every day decor –
I simply swapped out the coffee mugs and spoons, which are more of a practical and pretty kitchen item and replaced them with a stack of plates and added a salt and pepper set (that my Mom painted) 🙂

How To Decorate Your Kitchen Island or Dining Table With An Oversized Metal Tray
In this kitchen decor vignette, I decided to use a shallow bowl planter and plant flowers in it.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_8977-768x1024.jpg)
I love that this planter is shallow which makes for perfect table top or counter decor.
Using potting soil, I planted three small plants into the planter.

Now, she is ready to come inside as beautiful dining table decor!
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/home-with-heather-interior-decorating-stylist-bel-air-maryland-768x1024.jpg)
I love using real plants and flowers inside as much as possible.
These white, Sunsatia Coconut blooms are just what I was looking for, simple yet happy for every day decor in the dining room.
When I decided to transfer this dining table decor onto the kitchen island, I simply swapped the oversized tray for the wooden cutting board for a more casual look.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_8999_jpg-748x1024.jpg)
I love to use small pretty plates to decorate with in the kitchen, because they are the perfect size for our daughters to quickly grab for a snack.
They hardly ever need the large dining plates, with these small plates sitting out as purposeful decor.

How To Decorate Your Kitchen Island or Dining Table With A Round Woven Tray
You may have noticed by now…there is a small theme happening.
I always like to decorate and incorporate real flowers, real cut branches or faux stems into my kitchen and dining room decor as much as possible.
Which brings us to our next kitchen island decorating idea.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_9045-768x1024.jpg)
These are the pansies that were originally planted outside, during early Spring.
However, on my recent trip to my favorite greenhouse, I picked up new flowers to pot in my outside planters when I refreshed our front porch for Spring. You can see the Spring front porch, HERE in this post.
Instead of tossing the pansies, I re-potted them and we have been enjoying them both inside on the back patio and now, inside as part of our kitchen decor, on this large woven tray.

Using a frequently used and favorite cook book is always helpful to serve as a makeshift riser, when creating a vignette.
Also, as I am sure I am not the only Momma who has discovered this…but when I set fresh fruit out on the table…they eat it.
And yes…a candle is a must for that fresh kitchen feel.
Here is a similar, almost identical flat wicker round basket from Amazon.
And, in order to transfer this kitchen decor to dining room decor?
I simply removed the cook book and swapped the placement of the apples and the candle.

I love how the rusted tin planter pot, keeps our dining room vibe casual and the flowers make it inviting.
In the picture below, you can see that kitchen island decorating ideas and dining table decor vignettes are not only easy to transfer from island to table…
But?
You can create two of these looks and use them at the same time.
Place one vignette on the kitchen island and the other decor on the dining table.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_9035-1-768x1024.jpg)
Here is another example of using both kitchen counter decor and dining table decor.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/home-with-heather-interior-decorator-lifestyle-blog-kitchen-decor-inspiration-768x1024.jpg)
Each decorating vignette can easily be interchanged between the island and the dining table.
And yes, I am IN LOVE with my favorite hand soap and dish soap dispensers from Amazon!
The waterproof stickers have held us SO WELL after months of heavy use, and are so pretty!
We also use our bamboo dish scrub brush every day.

Also loving my new Turkish towels that I shared last week, here on my instagram stories.
How To Decorate Your Kitchen Counter With A Lazy Susan
Here is one more bonus kitchen decor vignette for your kitchen island or kitchen counter
I love my marble lazy susan with a little bit of pink!
Sometimes, I place her right on the kitchen island, decorated with purposeful and pretty things, like my favorite salt and pepper shakers, also from Amazon.

![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_8986-769x1024.jpg)
I found my sea grass pitcher on my last trip to my favorite home decor store in Lanacster, PA. However, I am also eyeing up this larger seagrass pitcher, that would be perfect kitchen island decor and purposeful too!
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/IMG_8989-768x1024.jpg)
Right now, I have moved the lazy susan from the kitchen island and am instead using it as kitchen counter decor along the back row of cabinets.
I swapped out the vintage jar of flatware for easy access to my favorite coffee mugs and vintage small spoons.
