It has been a slow and quiet week around our home.
Every year this week in between Christmas and the New Year can feel tricky to me.
Maybe you too?
Living inside the boundaries of an invisible reset button can feel confusing and blurry at times.
This week always tends to look a little different for me year to year, depending on what my body and mind need.
I’ve learned that, during this, what can feel weird week…that it’s ok, actually necessary, to lower my expectations of myself. To listen to what my body and mind are telling me in the moment and not to argue with the heart nudges needing attention.
And yet?
Deciding to move from operating at super speed, with all the decorating, shopping and hosting…to then downshift into slower speeds…
Well, it can sometimes almost feel wrong.
But it’s not wrong friend.
Slow is not wrong.
Rest is not wrong.
Telling the guilt to get lost and granting yourself permission to rest and recover from what tends to be a demanding season…is glorious.
And a gift worth receiving if we are willing to allow and hold space for the rest our human bodies require.
Speaking of gifts…
Our family celebrated Christmas with our family and close friends, starting with a beautiful Christmas Eve church service.

Capped off with dinner and an evening of all of us dressing up in inflatable Santa costumes and dancing to the tune of “Everybody Dance Now” to carry on the tradition of our annual Christmas Eve Facebook Live stream.

(I feel like Willa Pup is looking at these dancing Santa’s with a million doggie questions! 🙂
Yep, our girls took full Director’s Creative Rights from song choice to dance choreography and we had so much fun! 🙂
You can catch the replay HERE on Instagram or HERE on facebook.
And then?
As we all know, all to well…
The late minutes of Christmas Eve melt away oh so quickly, transforming into hopeful Christmas morning smiles.

And after all of the excitement of Christmas day?
It was time for some much needed fresh air and exercise!

I am finding that more and more, it seems that fresh air is usually the fastest way to clarity and calm for what can be a muddy mind of mine some times.
Friend, I don’t know what your Christmas looked like or felt like.
Perhaps you also had your own version of dancing Santa’s, in the midst of aching hearts. What I know is that every year is different. I used to compare Christmas last’s and pasts to Christmas’ of present.
And I’ve decided that for me…
It’s best to come into Christmas and this what can feel weird week, leading up to the New Year, with a make space for the right now moments attitude. To live in and wrap up inside what is good and true and unfolding right in front of me right now…because that is where the magic of the minute that will ultimately become a memory, lives and breathes.
I hope that helps you too.
So do the things you feel in your gut, you need to do.
Take the decorations down or don’t.
(There is no right or wrong here friend.)
Take a nap or don’t.
Read a book or don’t.
Go to bed early or don’t.
Just don’t ignore the gut instincts God gave you to guide you…especially right now.
I’ve done a little digging into my blog posts from the last year…and my friend Google Analytics tells me that there are a few…actually 16 posts in particular that have helped you decorate your home or inspired your personal spaces over the last 12 months.
