That phrase usually encourages me.

Wait Until You See This Gallery Wall & Picture Ledge
If you have been around here for awhile…
(Side note – my blog just turned THREE years old last week which is HARD for me to believe! I feel like I just wrote this post, when the blog turned two!)
You might remember way back when our living room looked like this:
![Gallery wall with farmhouse decor](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_5244.jpg-1-760x1024.webp)
Over time, I have slowly started breaking away from farmhouse decor and leaning more into my true heart style of coastal classic.
(Deep breath if you still love farmhouse…just follow your gut on what you love!)
Following your gut to let it guide you in all the things is critically important!
Inevitably, my gut always leads me to where the salt air sky meets the deep blue sea. 🙂
Even though, we live 3 hours away from the beach, I still LOVE the coastal vibe here at home,
And?
I have always loved a gallery wall.
In fact, more recently our living room was decorated with this Winter inspired gallery wall for Christmas.

And now?
Now, I have my husband to thank for building this board and batten wall with a picture ledge, so that the wall behind our sofa now looks like this.
![Gallery wall picture ledge after photo](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/home-with-heather-living-room-decor-768x1024.jpg)
We painted the board and batten wall in Pure White and you can get all of the details on how Shawn built this accent wall over a weekend HERE in this post.
First things first.
I selected the art I wanted to use to decorate our picture ledge with.
You already know that I LOVE Lindsay Letters art work.
99% of the art on our gallery wall are art prints I ordered from Lindsay Letters in sizes 8×10 or 11×14 prints.
(All of the art prints and natural wood frames I used for our gallery wall are linked at the bottom of this post.)
Once I selected the art prints I wanted to use, I found my natural wood frames at Target.
![Gallery wall frames and photography](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8140-1024x768.jpg)
I bought two of these light wood finish frames in a 20 x 30 size matted to an 11 x 14 opening.
I also bought a bunch of smaller natural wood frames from Target and laid them out next to the oversized frames.
![Gallery wall frames and photos](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8313-1024x768.jpg)
Afterwards, I shopped my house and gathered up a few frames I already had and started to lay them out on the floor as well, to get an idea of which frames and prints I really wanted to use.
![Gallery wall frames and photos](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8151-1024x769.jpg)
After deciding on which art prints and frames made the final cut, I started positioning the frames on the picture ledge one at a time.
Knowing I wanted to use this “Flower Stand” art print by Lindsay Letters as a main focal point, I decided to place that frame first on the picture ledge, near the center and then work out from the sides.
![Gallery wall frame and photo](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8141-768x1024.jpg)
Placing one picture frame at a time, I slowly worked out from the center of the flower stand art print, until it looked like this!
![Gallery wall picture ledge after photo](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/heather-krout-gallery-wall-inspiration-768x1024.jpg)
(Don’t worry, I am going to tell you the secret on how to secure them in just a sec! 🙂

The far left frame is a beach scene I purchased from Target last year, and unfortunately is no longer in stock.
However, if you are trying to duplicate this look, the size of the framed beach scene is a 30 x 24 frame, to help you find something similar size wise.
![Gallery wall picture ledge after photo](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/wall-behind-the-sofa-wall-decorating-ideas-768x1024.jpg)
To the right of the 30 x 24 framed beach scene, I used this natural frame in a size 16 x 20 matted to an 8×10 opening and put this Lindsay Letters art print of Dreamy Creamy Clouds.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8384-768x1024.jpg)
To the right of the plant stand print is this natural colored gallery frame, in size 16×20 matted to 11 x14 opening, laying horizontally with this art print Quietude in size 11×14.
Next to the horizontal frame is this natural rounded gallery frame in size 14×18 with this Island Storm art print in size 8×10.
The last picture frame on the far right is a 4×6 frame from Target, that I have had for a long time with a black and white photo of our girls jumping in the ocean with all of their clothes on.
It makes me smile. 🙂
How to secure the gallery frames on the picture ledge:
![Gallery wall close up photo](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/gallery-wall-picture-ledge-diy-768x1024.jpg)
Are you ready for the secret?
For the gallery frames that are flush to the wall and not overlapping another picture frame, I used these medium wire command hooks.
The trick is…hanging them upside down!
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/how-to-secure-frames-on-a-picture-ledge-768x1024.jpg)
By hanging the wire toggle hooks upside down, you are able to place the frame on the picture ledge to hold the frame and then attach the wire command hook to the wall and feed it through the traditional metal hardware, installed on the back of the picture frame.
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8429-768x1024.jpg)
Above, you will see how I secured the picture frame that is overlapping with another frame.
The metal toggle command hooks would not reach far enough away from the wall to secure the two picture frames I have overlapping other frames.
Therefore, I used the exact same command hooks that I used to hang my Christmas garland on my mantel and staircase over the holiday.
These command hooks are meant for bundling cables but they work wonders for SO many other things…including securing photo frames on a picture ledge!
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8425-768x1024.jpg)
I simply fed the rubber part of the command cable through the picture frame hanging hardware on the back and then clipped it into the command hook on the wall!
These command hooks are coming in so handy for so many decorating projects!! I could not have finished decorating the picture ledge and securing the frames without them!

And that friend is the scoop on how to decorate a picture ledge!
Now you know how to style a gallery wall on a picture ledge and how to secure picture frames from falling off a picture ledge so that your sweet pup can stay sleeping! HA! 🙂

Oh and while I was at Target buying the natural wood frames…
I also bought this rectangular gold frame and this square gold frame for my home office that adjoins the living room.

Love this tulip shell art print because this is the exact shell we found in Sanibel Island last year at this time and then came home and wrote this post: “21 Simple Ways To Decorate With Shells.”
The black and white photo I framed below the tulip shell print is a picture I snapped of our girls while we vacationed on Sanibel Island and Captiva Island, which you can read all about HERE in this post.

Before I let you go, you need to know about this super cute raffia side table!
![](https://heatherkrout.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IMG_8396-768x1024.jpg)
I just ordered this side table from TJ Maxx online!
Love the texture, drawer and shelf at the bottom! It works perfectly in between our new swivel chairs!
Also picked up this mini glass sphere table lamp while I was at Target too!

Heather,
Oh wow! It’s amazing what a difference this made. And thanks for the command tip. I didn’t know they made these. Just added it to my Amazon cart. Thanks for all your creative shares. I plan to share this tomorrow on my Dirt Road Adventures.
